Politician John Alexander fails to shift Putney home

The politician John Alexander, who headed the now abandoned inquiry into housing affordability, can't sell his own home.

The Putney abode of the Bennelong federal Liberal MP came onto the market in September with a suggested $2.8 million price tag.

Then there was $2.65 million auction price guidance, and this week it was marketed with a $2.85 million asking price.

The four-bedroom house was bought by the former tennis great for $1,845,000 six years ago.  

Alexander was asked to chair the inquiry into housing affordability by former treasurer Joe Hockey, but that inquiry lapsed in May at the mid-year federal election. 

There was talk Alexander was eyeing a penthouse in the nearby Putney Hill development.
