He became a household name outside of Tasmania after appearing on the 2013 My Kitchen Rules competition with their father son duo, before going on to have a career in radio.
However, Matt Newell has left his media career behind for a job in real estate. He is set to be employed as a property consultant by Harcourts Hobart.
"It was an incredibly hard decision," said Matt who worked for Hit 100.9 in Hobart for the past three years.
During that time used his celebrity status to fight for marriage equality.
"I love Tassie and want to stay here at this point in my life," he told radioinfo.com.au.
Matt wasn't the only one who ended up with a media career after MKR, his dad Mick Newell is a breakfast announcer on 101.7 7HO FM.
Matt will continue as a casual weather presenter on Southern Cross Television.
