Paul Mulder, the Brisbane mining boss, and his wife Janelle are selling their historic New Farm home.

The cottage was built in the 1890s in an endeavour to lure affluent Melbournites.

It is one of four adjacent residences that exemplified Brisbane's classy late 19th century housing development. It was designed by architect Claude William Chambers and built for successful railway contractor George Willcocks.

Its first resident was Albert Drury, clerk of the executive council of the state of Queensland from 1867 to 1904.

LJ Hooker New Farm agents Brett Greensill and Jermaine Jones have the offering.

Mulder is the managing director at Mayur Resources, having spent seven years as Hancock Prospecting's group managing director for coal and infrastructure until 2014 when known as the right-hand man of Australia's richest woman Gina Rinehart.

The couple, who are set to upgrade, bought the home for $2,541,000 in 2014.
