A modernist Allen Jack & Cottier-designed home in Vaucluse has been sold for $3.5 million.

Some six bidders competed for the dry side Coolong Road property.

There was an opening bid of $2.8 million.

It was bought by a young family returning from Melbourne.

The five-bedroom home features exposed brick walls, quarry tiled floors and Scandinavian inspired design.

The property was sold through Michael Dunn and James Dunn of Richardson & Wrench Double Bay having been tightly held by one family for over 30 years.

It was marketed as having versatile spaces including a formal living room with walled garden and family room with alfresco court-garden. Upstairs has a living room with balcony, master wing with sitting room/guest room and study area, and four further bedrooms.
